Rickettsia helvetica has been described in the western range of Ixodes ricinis distribution in Europe, from north Africa to Scandinavia. Recently it has been also found in another tick vector Dermacentor reticulatus in Croatia. It has been linked to acute perimyocarditis and sarcoidosis, as well a febrile illness.
