Rickettsia amblyommii is found in Amblyomma ticks in both North America and South America. These tick species are often highly infected and agressive in biting humans. Human infection has been wrongly attributed to R. rickettsii and R. parkeri in the past, but both seroconversion and PCR detection is beginning to demonstrate the far-ranging presence of this species.
